Business Team

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Mr. Seaman has over 28 years of business management experience. Mr. Seaman has executive oversight of the firm’s business areas including accounting, operations, legal, risk management, business development and investor relations, technology, human resources and administration.

Prior to joining Gramercy in June 2002, Mr. Seaman was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management’s Hedge Funds Group and Real Estate Investment Group from 2000 to 2002, where he was responsible for business growth and operational integrity. From 1998 to 2000, he was the Manager of the Emerging Markets Strategic Planning Group at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. and responsible for building a global office network. From 1992 to 1997, Mr. Seaman was head of Emerging Markets Business Analysis and Development at J.P. Morgan Securities, Inc. where he was instrumental in building new products and managing a complex control structure. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Securities, Inc., he was a Vice President in the J.P. Morgan & Co. Audit Group where he specialized in management consulting to new and rapidly growing sales and trading businesses. From 1984 to 1986, he was a Senior Audit Analyst at Ernst & Whinney.

Mr. Seaman received a MBA in Finance from New York University – Stern Graduate School of Business and a BS in Accounting with a minor in Economics at Long Island University – CW Post Center School of Professional Accountancy where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Additionally, Mr. Seaman is a Certified Public Accountant.

OPERATIONS

Mr. Lanava has over 16 years of investment operations experience and a 13 year tenure at Gramercy. As Head of Operations, Mr. Lanava oversees all restructured debt exchanges, trade confirmations and settlements, systems-embedded risk management tools, prime brokerage relationships and bank counterparty relationships. As Chief Compliance Officer, Mr. Lanava is responsible for ensuring our policies and procedures are up to date and that employees are operating within the boundaries as set.

Prior to joining Gramercy in March 1999, Mr. Lanava was the Operations Manager for Van Eck Capital, Inc., a broker-dealer focused on emerging markets. At Van Eck Capital, Inc. he was responsible for daily operational duties including the settlement of trades and net capitalization computations. He was also responsible for opening new accounts and setting up lines of credit. From 1997-1998, Mr. Lanava was the Settlements Officer for NCH Capital Inc., a family of hedge funds focused on Russia and the former Soviet Union, where he was responsible for the settlement of trades and custody of positions. From 1995-1997, he was the Operations Specialist for First Cambridge Securities Corp., where he performed back office operational duties including margin and trade correction.

Mr. Lanava received a BA in Economics from Saint Anselm College.

Mr. De Natale has over 13 years of industry experience. At Gramercy, Mr. De Natale works with the trading desk and prime brokers to ensure proper confirmation and settlement of all trades. He oversees counterparty reporting for derivative products and works closely with fund administrators to ensure proper reporting of the Firm’s assets.

Prior to joining Gramercy in September 2006, Mr. De Natale was the Manager for the U.S. Daily Fund Accounting Group for S.A.C. Capital Advisors, LLC, a multistrat hedge fund based in Stamford, CT where he was accountable for the proper and accurate reconciliation of the firm’s books and records. Previously, he worked as an operations analyst at S.A.C. Capital responsible for trade correction, corporate actions, margin and reconciliation for fixed income, U.S. equity and CDS products. From 2001 to 2003, Mr. De Natale was the Operations Manager for Hammond Inc., a private equity fund specializing in U.S. equities.

Mr. De Natale received a BA in Geography from the University of Delaware.

 

Mr. Dunn has 11 years of industry experience. At Gramercy, Mr. Dunn is primarily responsible for performance calculations, account reconciliations for all funds and facilitation of the trade settlement process. Additionally, he maintains and monitors trading systems, assists with the supervision of the Firm SAS 70 procedures and helps the technology team with special projects.

Prior to joining Gramercy in August 2008, Mr. Dunn was a Fixed Income Analyst and Treasury Manager with Luminent Mortgage Capital where he was responsible for the daily operations functions, primarily trade processing and cash flow management. Previously, he was employed at JP Morgan and SEI Investments where he held positions on their settlements team and hedge fund accounting groups, respectively.

Mr. Dunn received a BA in Liberal Arts, with a focus in Economics, from Harvard University.

FUND ACCOUNTING

Mr. Del Virginia has over 15 years of accounting and industry experience, nine of which he has spent at Gramercy. Mr. Del Virginia is a member of the Firm’s Management and Investment Committees, heads the Firm’s SAS 70 compliance team and also assists the CCO and CLO with regulatory compliance. Additionally, he manages all the world-wide accounting and financial reporting obligations of the Firm.

Prior to joining Gramercy in September 2002, Mr. Del Virginia was Controller and Head of Operations at Merlin BioMed Investment Advisors, LLC, a healthcare hedge fund based in New York. While at Merlin, he was responsible for management of the financial, trading and administrative operations of the firm, and acted as the primary liaison for investor inquiries, audits, legal and tax issues. From 1999-2000, Mr. Del Virginia was a senior accountant at The Millburn Corporation and was responsible for the administration of several hedge funds where his duties included settlement of trades, daily NAV calculations and audit and tax issues. From 1996-1999, he worked at Rothstein, Kass & Co, P.C. as an audit supervisor under their investment partnership practice.

Mr. Del Virginia received a BS in Accounting from Montclair State University. Additionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the New York State Society of CPAs.

Mr. Joannou has over 16 years of financial management and control experience. As Controller, Mr. Joannou manages all the world-wide accounting and financial reporting obligations of the Firm inclusive of the client funds and Gramercy management company. Such oversight includes daily and monthly analysis and reporting, annual audited financial statements, cash projections and controls, expense management, tax analysis and statements, management dashboards, and special analytical projects as requested by senior management. Mr. Joannou heads the Firm’s SAS 70 compliance team and also assists the CCO and CLO with regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining Gramercy in February 2007, Mr. Joannou was a Capital Project Director for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, located in New York, NY where he managed over $800MM worth of infrastructure projects. As Project Director, he was responsible for creating and tracking multiple budgets, organizing cross-functional working groups, analyzing project risk, and awarding contracts after design review. Mr. Joannou’s management increased efficiency and productivity and resulted in higher operating capacity.

Mr. Joannou received a MBA in Management from Centenary College and a BBA in Banking and Finance from Hofstra University.

Mr. Smith has over 11 years of accounting and industry experience and is responsible for overseeing and facilitating audit, tax and attestation engagements, including the preparation and/or review of tax returns, attestation engagements, and asset verification reports for Gramercy’s funds. Mr. Smith also assists with the management of the Firm’s day to day accounting activities, works on SAS 70 compliance and is responsible for the research and implementation of appropriate measures related to newly issued accounting guidance. Additionally, he helps with special analytical projects as requested by senior management.

Prior to joining Gramercy in May of 2007, Mr. Smith was an Audit Supervisor at Rothstein, Kass & Co, P.C. under their investment partnership practice. He was responsible for managing engagement teams including supervising, training and coaching staff associates in the standards and guidelines applicable to the completion of audit engagements. In addition, he prepared K-1’s, 1065’s and tax estimates for numerous clients. While at Rothstein, Kass & Co, P.C., Mr. Smith also had the opportunity to prepare and present tax seminars to lower level staff.

Mr. Smith received a BS in Accounting at Binghamton University. Additionally, he is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the New York State Society of CPA’s (NYSSCPA).

Mr. Wilson joined Gramercy in May 2011 and has over 11 years of accounting and industry experience. He is responsible for the oversight and management of all fund accounting matters, works on the set up and implementation of new accounts, provides review support for daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations and acts as a liaison with Gramercy’s external administrators. Additionally, Mr. Wilson assists with client reporting matters and financial statement preparation and review. He has extensive experience in all accounting and tax matters of fund products, investments and managed accounts.

Most recently, Mr. Wilson served as CFO of Quattro Global Capital for two years and CFO for Vestry Capital during the prior year. Mr. Wilson previously served for two years as CFO/CCO of Emerging Sovereign Group from 2006 to 2008. From 2004 to 2006 he was a fund accountant at Omega Advisors. Previous to his time at Omega Advisors, he was a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Investment Management Audit Group.

Mr. Wilson has a BS in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University. Additionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York.

Ms. Balsamo has 12 years of industry experience, eight of which she has spent at Gramercy. She is responsible for the oversight and management of fund accounting matters, provides review support for monthly reconciliations and acts as a liaison with Gramercy’s external administrators.

Prior to joining Gramercy in February 2003, Ms. Balsamo was a manager at SS&C Technologies, a hedge fund administrator and technology service provider. She managed five investment accountants, oversaw portfolio accounting for over 40 hedge funds and managed all information distributions, while acting as the primary liaison on all client queries. Prior to SS&C, Ms. Balsamo was an Account Manager for Marcoin Business Services, a financial consulting firm specializing in all aspects of tax and accounting.

Ms. Balsamo received an AAS in Business Administration/Accounting from Berkeley College.

Mr. Estefan has over 19 years of experience in the banking and finance industry. He is Finance Director at Pendulum Associates and one of Gramercy’s representatives in Mexico City.

Prior to joining Pendulum in January 2011, Mr. Estefan was Corporate Director of Finance, Planning & Structured Operations at AFIRME Financial Group. From 2004 to 2007 he was Director of Planning & Business Development at National Savings & Financial Services Bank, Mexico. Prior to that, he was an Independent Bank Consultant specializing in risk and finance for the International Monetary Fund. From 2000 to 2003 Mr. Estefan was Regional Business Development Director for AIS Group in Spain. Additionally Mr. Estefan has held positions at Aldeamerica Inc.,Transportacion Maritima Mexicana SA, Tribaume Investment Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture in Mexico. Aside from his professional experience, Mr. Estefan has taught courses in Corporate Finance and Financial Analysis at the Nuevo Leon University in Monterrey and previously has taught courses in Managerial Economics, Macroeconomics and Strategic Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).

Mr. Estefan received a MBA at University of Chicago, a MS in Economics and Finance at University of Warwick, Conventry, UK and a BA in Economics (with a diploma in Derivatives and Risk Management) from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).

Mr. Mejia has over 11 years of fund accounting experience. He is a member of Gramercy’s Fund Accounting team, responsible for managing all aspects of fund accounting matters, month-end reporting, financial statement preparation and review, as well as acting as a liaison with Gramercy’s external Administrators.

Prior to joining Gramercy in June 2010, Mr. Mejia was a Hedge Fund Associate in JP Morgan’s Alternative Asset Management Fund of Hedge Funds Group working on fund administration and process improvement. Prior to that, Mr. Mejia devoted four years to Fairfield Greenwich Group as a Senior Fund Accountant, handling all aspects of day to day fund activities, month-end reporting, administrator reconciliations and financial statement review. He was also involved with the creation and implementation of policies, procedures and controls, and assisted with due diligence on underlying managers. From 2002 to 2004 he was an Account Manager at Citco Fund Services where he was responsible for hedge fund administration for nearly two years. Mr. Mejia started his career with AIG’s Global Investment Group and was responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and portfolio administration. Additionally, Mr. Mejia is fluent in Spanish.

Mr. Mejia received a BBA with a concentration in Accounting from Berkeley College.

Mr. Palumbo has over six years of fund accounting experience. As a member of Gramercy’s Fund Accounting team, he is responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day fund accounting activities, month-end reporting, financial statement preparation and review, as well as acting as a liaison with Gramercy’s external Administrators.

Prior to joining Gramercy in September 2007, Mr. Palumbo was a fund accountant for Och-Ziff Capital Management Group where he was responsible for the analysis of overall cash exposure, margin and reconciliation and daily P&L. From 2005 to 2007, he worked as a fund accountant at GlobeOp Financial Services, a hedge fund administrator.

Mr. Palumbo received a MBA at New York Institute of Technology and a BS in Finance at New York Institute of Technology.

Mr. Smithers has over 20 years of industry experience. He serves as the senior collections executive for Pendulum Associates, drawing on his extensive experience in credit analysis, collections, executive management and portfolio administration. At Pendulum, Mr. Smithers is responsible for all commercial and mortgage collections teams nationally, for the development and implementation of process improvements and the continued growth of collections revenue. He is also in charge of the legal program, which is the largest program in the industry with over 18,000 active legal processes.

Prior to joining Gramercy, Mr. Smithers worked as Director of Mortgage Collections for First City México, leading a national team who collected over Ps. 150 million. Prior to that, he worked for several General Electric financial institutions in México, including Administradora Habitat, where as Director General, he performed due diligence on new portfolios, recruited an entire team of professionals, and was responsible for the collection of Ps. 100 million per year. Mr. Smithers began his career at Banca Serfin, where he worked in various positions for 17 years. He was responsible for leading the collection efforts for the bank in his region, and led his team to collect over 80% of the overdue portfolio of the bank. Based on his performance record, Mr. Smithers was chosen to be the National Director of Credit and Collections for the Small Business Division, where he designed, revised and implemented various collection policies, procedures, and programs, including the establishment of a call center, and the authorization of all credit and collection transactions for the Small Business nationwide.

Mr. Smithers received a degree in Public Accounting from the Universidad Latinoamericana.

Mr. Young has over 22 years of industry experience, 13 of which he has spent at Gramercy. Mr. Young provides confidential specialty accounting and tax advice for partners, management companies and high net worth investors. He represents Gramercy management companies and partners in various tax matters and audits and assist investors and/or investor representatives with tax related issues.

Prior to joining Gramercy in June 1998, Mr. Young was the Controller/CFO for Tivoli Partners, L.P., a startup hedge fund where he was responsible for all of the accounting and operational functions of the Fund. From 1996 to 1997, Mr. Young was an Assistant Controller at Refco Capital Markets Ltd. where he supervised the daily P&L calculations for several groups including the emerging markets group. Prior to Refco, he worked at Seneca Capital, L.P. where he served as Controller and Fund Administrator for their domestic and offshore funds. From 1992 to 1996 he served as a manager at Goldstein, Golub, Kessler & Company where he specialized in performing audits of investment partnerships. From 1989 to 1992 he served as a Senior Accountant at Sobel & Company.

Mr. Young received a BS in Public Accounting at Rutgers University. Additionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant.

LEGAL

Mr. Taylor has nearly 10 years of legal experience and is responsible for managing the full spectrum of Gramercy’s legal affairs including the firm’s compliance with all applicable U.S. and foreign securities laws, tax laws, AML and ERISA issues. In addition, Mr. Taylor is responsible for risk management with respect to all documentation relating to trading counterparties and investment guidelines. He also manages the legal side of asset management and product development, assisting with position entries and exits, restructurings and fund formations.

Prior to joining Gramercy in March 2010, Mr. Taylor was with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney where he focused on the sale and distribution of various alternative products including private equity, real estate and hedge funds. From 2005 to 2009 he was with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP as an Associate in their Financial Services Department where he primarily represented investment banks and hedge funds in connection with the negotiation of various credit and equity derivatives transactions and other types of secured financing transactions. From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Taylor was an Associate in the Tax Department at Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP where he represented investors and asset managers with respect to legal, tax and business matters surrounding private equity fund formation, LBO transactions and private equity investments.

Mr. Taylor received a JD from Columbia University School of Law (where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar) and a BA in Sociology with a minor in Business from SUNY Albany. Additionally, he attended the Tax LLM program at New York University School of Law and is a member of the New York Bar.

TECHNOLOGY

Mr. Harris has 14 years of industry experience, nine of which has been spent at Gramercy. Mr. Harris runs all aspects of the technology department. His vast knowledge of programming languages enables Mr. Harris to update and maintain the development of all end-of-day reports, adjust code on a regular basis to meet the ever changing needs of the users and design programs to assist in the day-to-day operations of all of Gramercy’s departments. Mr. Harris researches, implements and administers new technologies ensuring that Gramercy’s technology is both SAS 70 compliant and cutting edge. Additionally, he develops, manages and maintains the company’s websites and databases. On a daily basis, Mr. Harris collaborates with his team on various help desk issues, building and customizing computers, as well as designing and supervising all networks on a global level.

Prior to joining Gramercy in July 2002, Mr. Harris worked at LiveTechnology, Inc. He developed company intranets, extranets, and other web sites for many leading companies, such as Coca-Cola, Omnicom, and Shell/Texaco. He also created web sites and web applications at UGO.com. Mr. Harris worked at Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) where he deployed ISS security products across large corporations’ networks. He started his career at American Management Systems, Inc. as a programmer and database administrator.

Mr. Harris received a BS in Computer Science from Binghamton University.

Mr. Farberov has eight years of technology experience. At Gramercy he provides technology help desk support by troubleshooting all issues related to PC’s, servers, software applications (including Bloomberg, telephone equipment, printers, blackberries, etc.), as well as assisting with special technology projects.

Prior to joining Gramercy in May 2011, Mr. Farberov worked at Eze Castle where he was responsible for the maintenance of all IT services for various hedge fund clients. His work included working with Windows based servers, individual PC’s and laptops and a various other software applications. Prior to that, Mr. Farberov worked as a Systems Administrator for both GKH Law Offices and the Israel Defense Force.

Mr. Farberov attended the Open University of Israel where he studied Management and Computer Science – Systems & Applications.

HR & ADMINISTRATION

Mr. Harvey has over 31 years of experience. At Gramercy, he is responsible for all human resource functions, as well as having oversight of the health plan and other benefits. His areas of responsibility include benefits, compensation, employee relations, human resources compliance, immigration, performance measurement, records, recruitment and staffing and information management.

Prior to joining Gramercy in 2008, Mr. Harvey was a Senior Vice President with WorldBridge Partners, a national executive search firm. During his 18 years there, he directed the investment management practice providing human resource solutions and consulting services to a wide variety of clients in the hedge fund, institutional investment management and private wealth disciplines. Prior to WorldBridge, Mr. Harvey held a position with Goldman Sachs in the Controller’s Department managing currency reporting. Mr. Harvey began his career with Chemical Bank, completing the management training program and focusing on retail branch management.

Mr. Harvey received a BBA in Accounting from Hofstra University.

 

Ms. Bonaventura is Robert Koenigsberger’s dedicated Executive Assistant. At Gramercy, Ms. Bonaventura provides comprehensive administrative support to Robert Koenigsberger and responds to various inquiries and requests on his behalf. She is also involved in the administrative hiring process, and works closely with the administrative team.

Prior to joining Gramercy in May 2010, she was the executive assistant to the founder of Shumway Capital Partners, where she managed all aspects of his internal and external communications, vendor management, employee administration, and company events. Prior to Shumway, Ms. Bonaventura spent four years at Lancome, L’Oreal USA as a manager in sales administration, supervising accounts and overseeing the implementation of new product launches, and supporting efforts with financial plans, advertising needs coordination and sales force/accounts liaison. She initiated her career at BMG Entertainment, where she was a financial analyst for two years, handling financial forecasting, budgeting, sales studies, competitive analyses and expense analysis/reporting.

Ms. Bonaventura received a BBA in Marketing from James Madison University.

Ms. Vanacore joined Gramercy in February 2011. At Gramercy, Ms. Vanacore manages the corporate treasury function inclusive of Management Company cash management, related expense analysis and processing, and vendor management. Ms. Vanacore assists with employee compliance control and related documentation, and she is involved in the administrative hiring and management process, working closely with the Human Resources department. Ms. Vanacore provides comprehensive administrative support to Scott Seaman, Partner and COO, including analytical projects, scheduling and responses to various inquiries and requests on his behalf. She is charged with maintaining all administrative requirements of Gramercy, including real estate management, office management, assistance with client meetings, travel arrangements, billing, expense reports and various other administrative business matters.

Prior to joining Gramercy, Ms. Vanacore worked in the Greenwich Office of JP Morgan Private Bank, where she was instrumental in organizing their client-records system using proficiencies in Microsoft Office. Ms. Vanacore also worked through college at various positions that required client interfacing, technology applications to solve business problems, call center management and client event planning.

Ms. Vanacore received a BS in Communications and Technologies from Sacred Heart University.

Ms. Osiecki joined Gramercy in April of 2011. At Gramercy, she provides support to the Investor Relations team. Her efforts include managing the marketing calendars and marketing material production including investor reporting, media packs and presentations. Additionally, Ms. Osiecki is in charge of maintaining data in our CRM. She also assists the Office Manager, as well as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Legal Officer with various administrative tasks.

Prior to joining Gramercy, Ms. Osiecki managed a wide array of administrative responsibilities for CWH Associates, where she utilized her MS Office skills to generate reports, develop formal documentation and file procedures. Ms. Osiecki also managed P&L statement preparation with QuickBooks Pro and other periodic reports on an as needed basis.

Ms. Osiecki received a BS in Psychology from Western Connecticut State University.
